3-Day Opatija Itinerary
Three days is perfect for Opatija. Enough to see the highlights without rushing, with time for long lunches and beach naps. This itinerary mixes the must-sees with the kind of spontaneous moments that make a trip memorable.
Day 1: Arrive, check in, walk the Lungomare from your hotel to Slatina Beach for a swim. Lunch at Istranka (affordable, local, amazing truffle dishes if you're visiting in autumn). Afternoon: explore Opatija center — Angiolina Park with its botanical garden, the Girl with Seagull statue, peek inside Hotel Kvarner's lobby (Croatia's first hotel, 1884). Dinner: splurge at Bevanda — get the Kvarner shrimp carpaccio and watch the boats.
Day 2: Morning: Volosko food walk (see our guide). This will fill your morning and early afternoon beautifully. Late afternoon: Ičići beach or Tomaševac if you want fewer people and better swimming. The water at Tomaševac is crystal clear over white pebbles. Evening: back to Opatija for gelato at Roko (pistachio is the move) and a sunset stroll on the promenade. Maybe a cocktail at one of the terrace bars.
Day 3: Učka mountain day trip (see our guide) if you want adventure, or rent a car and drive south to Lovran old town → Mošćenička Draga (hidden beach gem, one of the prettiest coves on the coast). If you're feeling lazy, just walk the full Lungomare to Lovran and back at your own pace. Farewell dinner in Volosko at Plavi Podrum — book ahead, get a window table, order the octopus salad.
