Hotel Bristol

Bristol is one of the most photographed buildings in Opatija, and for good reason. Built in 1906, its yellow facade and ornate balconies look like something out of a Wes Anderson film. It's been fully renovated inside, so you get the historic exterior with modern rooms. The location is unbeatable — right on the main promenade, which means you'll hear the sea from your window (and occasionally some evening strollers, but that's the trade-off). The restaurant does solid Croatian-Mediterranean food, and the terrace is a lovely spot for morning coffee. At 4-star prices that feel more like 3-star, Bristol is arguably the best value in central Opatija. You're paying for location and history without the luxury markup. Best for: travelers who want to be in the thick of it, history buffs, photographers.
