St. Jacob's Church
The town gets its name from this place — 'opatija' means 'abbey' in Croatian. St. Jacob's has been here since the 15th century, and it's been beautifully renovated while keeping its original character. Small, understated, and genuinely peaceful inside. Free entry, and it only takes 10 minutes to see, but it adds context to understanding how this fishing hamlet became a Habsburg resort town.
